DesignMind Project
Big Data POC, and upon completion, successful deployment of production MapR-based platform.
Objective
Replace legacy data warehouse technology (Oracle and Informatica) with modern Big Data stack based on Hadoop, Apache Hive and Drill to lower costs and improve delivery times for key business reports of Gracenote product performance.
Our Solution
DesignMind delivered a secure production-ready modern Big Data platform using key partner and open-source technologies. The solution allowed data warehouse developers to migrate compute and storage intensive data processing jobs to the new platform, and analysts to access the platform with familiar SQL tools. Access was controlled through Active Directory user authentication for all components, ensuring only authorized users could access and modify data.

Gracenote provides data services to the world’s hottest entertainment products and brands, from Spotify and iTunes to Sony and LG TVs. It powers the biggest names in digital media, enabling their products with Gracenote's leading edge solutions, which include their digital media recognition system dubbed MusicID. The company also provides technology that generates playlists and provides music recommendations after analyzing music that already exists in a user's library. It provides media management technology and a global media database of digital entertainment information to the mobile, automobile, portable, home, and PC markets.
Gracenote's Platform is Faster and More Efficient
The result was a platform that was faster and consumed fewer resources to run Gracenote’s reporting workload, saving hardware and software licensing costs.
