At the European SharePoint Conference that took place in Stockholm (November 9-12, 2015), Microsoft sent their SharePoint 2016 Features team to talk about the release of SharePoint 2016 Beta 2. Seth Patton, the Senior Director of Product Management for Microsoft SharePoint and OneDrive, began his speech by underlining the fact that Microsoft’s goal is to help individuals and organizations improve their productivity. The company estimates that by 2020, there are going to be 44 trillion gigabytes of digital data, and most of this data will consist of emails and documents. The actual release will happen in April 2016.

SharePoint 2016 Features
Let’s take a look at some of the new SharePoint 2016 features.
Thanks to this new feature, you will be able to see with what you’re actually spending most of your time, whether it’s sending emails, or simply having meetings. The analytics feature will also show you who are the people you engage with most, as well as the people you haven’t been in touch with for a while.
2. Cloud hybrid search
All the SharePoint 2016 features will work with Office 365, and so users will be able to receive unified search results thanks to a combined search index of Office 365. With this new feature, customers will be able to find any type of information that is stored in Delve, and organize it. Also, because the search index will belong to Office 365, users will avoid large index costs. The hybrid search feature is definitely the most expected feature of this new release, and of course the term “hybrid” is getting a lot of traction in the tech world.
3. Reducing IT’s tasks
SharePoint 2016 will focus on making sure that all IT or administrative tasks will be reduced and replaced by efficient processes. This way, IT departments will have more time to work on their own tasks. Improved management is a feature that all companies stand to benefit from.
4. Mobile usability
Most of us are responding to emails, or doing work related tasks on the go, and so mobile devices have become a big part of our world. With the latest SharePoint version, users can now enjoy the same experience they would get if they used it on a desktop.
5. Easy sharing
People are more willing to share something if it’s simple, clear, and easy for them to do it. Now users will have a “share” button at the top right corner on every page. After choosing the people someone wants to share a site or a file with, they just need to click “enter”, and then each person will receive an invitation by email. It’s the same principle used when sharing Google spreadsheets.
6. Data loss prevention
Data leaking or simply the fact that hackers can discover vulnerabilities in a system are big no-no’s when it comes to big companies and confidential information. That’s why SharePoint 2016 features ensure that unauthorized users won’t have access to sensitive information.
